How do I choose the right size?
The sizes of our rope halters correspond to standard sizes, such as those for a regular stable halter or bridle. If you usually use a cob size, you can also choose cob for the rope halter.
If you’re unsure, we recommend measuring your horse or pony’s nose circumference. Use a measuring tape and measure snugly (not too loose or too tight) around the nose, about 2 cm below the cheekbone. In our size chart, you’ll find the nose measurements in centimeters along with the corresponding rope halter size.
If desired, we can also make a custom-sized rope halter for you.
It’s important that a rope halter fits closely to the head. This way, you can train most effectively because there is less noise in your communication with your horse.
What is the difference between standard knots and cross knots?
Standard knots on a rope halter are tied in a parallel way, resulting in a flatter shape at the back. Cross knots, on the other hand, are tied in a criss-cross pattern. This makes them rounder and slightly more pronounced in their effect on the horse.
What's a fiador knot?
A fiador knot is a round-braided knot typically found under the chin of a rope halter. Unlike the standard overhand knot, the fiador knot has a more rounded and decorative appearance.
Functionally, there’s no difference between the two – both knots hold the halter in place equally well. The difference is purely visual: the fiador knot gives the halter a more refined, traditional look.
What does sidepull mean?
On a sidepull rope halter, there are two rings attached to the sides of the noseband.
Instead of attaching the reins underneath the halter, you can connect them to the sides of the horse’s head. This can offer slightly more directional guidance, which may help with steering.
Are you allowed to tie your horse to a rope halter?
Important Safety Notice:
Never tie your horse to the rope halter. The rope halter is made from strong rope and constructed in one piece. Due to its strength and quality, the rope itself will not easily break. If anything does break under high pressure, it will almost always be at the snap hook or clip, as these are the weakest points compared to the rope and lead rope.
Never leave your horse unattended while wearing a (rope) halter in the stable, arena, or pasture. Horses can get a leg caught in the halter or get caught on fences or other objects, which can lead to serious injuries.
Always ensure you have the proper knowledge and experience when riding or training your horse (especially bitless), and ideally do so within a secure, enclosed area.
